This is a master’s degree project exploring the concept of human connections to dissect and understand it’s vitality to current day social issues and find spatial solutions to re-bond communities in a simple and accessible manner.

Human connections is a facility made with a main function of play to combat social gaps for those who do or do not need it. Utilizing the return to childhood humans become more comfortable with the simplicity and excitement of play. With the versatility of board games Human connection creates a creative new public space that allows socialization to flow while considering all aspects of comfort.

Special considerations focus on the furniture design which emotes playful themes and also accessible functionality for mobility-based disability. Seating and space is highly explore to utilise 3 types of play that differs in the feeling of privacy. The sensory space is inspired by research on introverted, neurodivergent and autistic needs for socialisation and decompression. Focusing on allowing those with the least social skills to have vital tools to connect with others.

Through psychological, thematic and considerate research Human connections is made to exist anywhere and for all.

Concept - A Social Experience Lead By Play

Research - Human Data and Site Analysis

To Understand what makes Human most comfortable in social and spatial environments I conducted a questionnaire as part of my research. The questionnaire asked two questions:

  1. Would you consider yourself a social person? (Elaborate if needed)

  2. Think about a time when you were in a new place with people you didn’t know well. Describe the physical space, like the room or location and how it made you feel emotionally. Were you nervous or uncomfortable? Did those feelings change over time with the people around you? How did the space itself contribute to your feelings?
